The Power of the General…

The Power of the General…

I often have people ask me about what was it that compelled me to throw in the comfort and security of my corporate existence to create a business that fills me with pride, passion and excitement.

The response that I typically give people is the fact that it is one thing to actually connect with the path of your true calling and another thing entirely to have the courage to walk that path.

Recognising this as I set out on my entrepreneurial journey, I knew that I was going to have some aces to call upon if I ever felt my personal conviction fading as challenges emerged on my path.

Allow me to share the story I reflect upon whenever times get tough…

The Power of the General.

There once was a General who had valiantly won a long drawn out battle on foreign soil. Although victorious, his men were but a shadow of their former fighting selves. They were tired, hungry and longed to return home.

Just as they were about to sail back to the motherland the General received a strict command from the King to go and fight yet another war.

The General was fully aware that his men were in no state for fighting but he dared not to risk the dishonour that would fall upon him if he betrayed the Kings orders. So he adjusted their course accordingly.

When he arrived at yet another foreign shore he immediately assembled what was left of his men on the beach. He then made the bold and shocking move of burning every one of his ships to the ground.

He gave his men no form of retreat.

They responded in kind by completely annihilating the army they were invading.

Make Success Your Only Option

What would happen to your life and business if you made success your only option?

What bold moves would you make to propel you forward?

What inner resources would you call upon that you didn’t even realise were there?

What would you do to celebrate your ultimate success?

All powerful questions to ask yourself as you go about manifesting your true desires…

The soldiers were fighting and therefore the general used their fear to propel them on to the disgusting business of annihilation of their fellow men. Success achieved by fear is one way forward I guess. My colleagues and I achieve our successes by following courses of action that we love and know will nourish others too, so your story turned me off. Business deals achieved for the good of all concerned and the prospective clients are my chosen way forward at all times. As the old masculine warrior energy is on the wane in the universe, commercial organisations are finding that "making a killing" is no longer such an acceptable approach. It harms all parties to the deals and so remuneration is not as healthy and sweetly enjoyable as it could otherwise be, and rarely commands the true respect of colleagues, employees and prospective customers.

Examples:

Marks and Spencers have a value for money reputation for customers and also a good training programme for staff plus good staff welfare & benefits.

Maria Grachvogel, Sloane Street, London, and Oli.com diffusion range, is noted for positive mission in design, integrity in business deals and for care and support of staff.

I agree with both strategies. Nurture wins sometimes, but it can be a long, yet enjoyable journey. Sometimes you just need the cold hard jolt to break out of a mediocre environment and really achieve. Success comes from knowing when to use which tactic.

“The only way to learn the rules of the game is by betting more than you have to loose” Donald Trump - The problem arises, when you have lost more than you could afford to loose, but with hindsight ( that wonderful 20/20 vision!) know why you lost it then you have nothing left to learn the next rule!
