The Power of the General…
I often have people ask me about what was it that compelled me to throw in the comfort and security of my corporate existence to create a business that fills me with pride, passion and excitement.
The response that I typically give people is the fact that it is one thing to actually connect with the path of your true calling and another thing entirely to have the courage to walk that path.
Recognising this as I set out on my entrepreneurial journey, I knew that I was going to have some aces to call upon if I ever felt my personal conviction fading as challenges emerged on my path.
Allow me to share the story I reflect upon whenever times get tough…
The Power of the General.
There once was a General who had valiantly won a long drawn out battle on foreign soil. Although victorious, his men were but a shadow of their former fighting selves. They were tired, hungry and longed to return home.
Just as they were about to sail back to the motherland the General received a strict command from the King to go and fight yet another war.
The General was fully aware that his men were in no state for fighting but he dared not to risk the dishonour that would fall upon him if he betrayed the Kings orders. So he adjusted their course accordingly.
When he arrived at yet another foreign shore he immediately assembled what was left of his men on the beach. He then made the bold and shocking move of burning every one of his ships to the ground.
He gave his men no form of retreat.
They responded in kind by completely annihilating the army they were invading.
